Discussion:
Reverse Enginerer

I've been using Visio to model DB's on SQL Server 2000 for a while now and I
just tried to reverse engineer a database from SQL Server 2005. Everything
wen't fine until I tried to login to the server (the test connection was
good) and I got the message:

The currectly selected Visio driver is not compatable with the data
source.

I ended up pushing the DDL to a 2000 box and got the diagram just fine.
However, since at some point in time, I won't have a 2000 instance, I'm
going to need to get this working with 2005 (sooner, rather than later).

Thanks,
Jay

Oh, almost forgot:

Windows XP Pro
Visio Pro 2003 SP2 (11.7218.8132)

Selected "Microsoft SQL Server" for the Visio driver and
"SQL Server" for the "driver for which you want to setup a data source".

As previously stated, the test connection was fine.

SQL 2005 came out 2 years after Visio 2003 was released, so the drivers in
Visio do not support 2005 version SQL. You can see all the listed versions
for database modeling in this article:
899598 You cannot use the Reverse Engineer Wizard on certain DBMS database
in Visio 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;899598

There are two current versions of Visio which support SQL 2005 as a
database modeling source, however:
Visio for Enterprise Architects / bundled with Visual Studio 2005 (Team
editions)
Visio 2007 Professional
